Enchanted Rock
Last week my daughter Brianna and I had the opportunity to go camping at Enchanted Rock. This is one place that we have wanted to go hiking. Packing up our backpacks with all the necessary gear - we headed off for a two night adventure camping in the back country at this state park. We put in almost 15 miles exploring the area, hiking the trails and enjoying lunch at the top of Enchanted Rock.
First night no problems. The second night - was an adventure! Now anyone who has camped in the back country know you have critters that are looking for an easy meal. Experienced campers we are no food in our tents - hung our food in a bag hanging from a tree. High enough off the ground and low enough that a critter in the tree couldn't get into it.
It's about 11:30 pm - Brianna in a deep sleep and me just about to nod off hear a large thump on the side of the tent. It almost sounded like a rock was thrown at the side of the tent. Night vision - I sat up to see the face of a racoon peering inside! The rain flap on our tent is only about 3 inches from the ground - that curious fat critter crawled under the flap hence the loud sound! I hit the side of the tent and hissed at this critter and thankfully he left. With our hearts pounding we lay close to one another bundled up in our sleeping bags. We listened to him try to get into our hanging bag of treats - he was unsuccessful and after about an hour - we were back into a peaceful slumber.
Here are a few shots taken from my lightweight Cybershot. Enjoy!
